Play Tunnels - Play Tents - Play Huts: Proprioceptive Input And Sensory Escape All In One!
Posted by OutdoorFuntime on: Wednesday, August 4, 2010
Play tunnels, play tents and play huts come in a variety of sizes, shapes, styles and designs and can be used in a variety of environments in endless ways.

Children love to develop gross motor, body awareness, and motor planning skills by crawling through these play tunnels. The tunnels, play tents and play huts can also encourage cooperative and imaginative play.

Additionally, they are a great way to provide their bodies with the proprioceptive input (input to muscles and joints) they crave as energetic and active children.

Play tunnels can be used individually or attached to play tents and play huts. There are so many to choose from and so many ways to use them if you tap into your creative powers.

Put them in your house, the backyard, a preschool or daycare, school or therapy clinic. The children LOVE them!

Do I dare suggest you can further use the play tunnels as a sensory experience?

  • Fill them with textured materials to explore while crawling through
  • Put a variety of lights and sounds in the tunnel
  • shake them up while the child is crawling through to challenge their balance, vestibular, and motor skills
  • and/or use the play tents and play huts as a calming place to go if the child is overstimulated.

You can make the play tunnel, tent or hut their own private sensory room! How cool is that!

Use these how you see best. Choose the play tunnels, tent or hut that interests and matches your child's personality best.

There are so many to choose from; trains to fire engines, wigwams to bright neon colors, jungle safari to Thomas the Tank Engine, single tunnels to multiple connected tunnels and huts.

You choose your preference for fun!
